Business Challenge

In order to meet the requirements of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) as implemented by domestic regulatory agencies (the Federal Reserve, FSA, OSFI, etc.) for all large financial institutions, the client needed a solution to consolidate all the data required to implement a solution in compliance with the Basel Capital Accord (Basel II).  The main challenges here were the complexity of the regulatory affairs field (Basel requirements), the variety of  systems and data sources from operating subsidiaries and the need to reconcile with other corporate reports such as general ledger, trading desk portfolio monitoring, etc.

Solutions

Suntaeg provided a project team for all phases of the Basel data mart implementation project: analysis, architecture, data modelling, development and quality assurance as well as project scoping and project management. Using our proven data warehousing and business intelligence methodologies, we implemented a robust integrated and auditable data management solution based on data integration/ETL architecture. The overall solution not only satisfies Basel reporting requirements, it also provides master data solutions in the area of financial instruments, counterparty and ratings. our client was also able to leverage the solution in other areas of financial reporting and general ledger consolidation using the datamart that we implemented.

Benefits
  • Integrated and auditable data management solution that consolidates data from different subsidiaries and systems into a data mart in compliance with Basel requirements
  • Master data solutions for Basel and other internal systems in the area of financial instruments, counterparty and ratings
  • Leveraging of the same solution (cost efficiency) for other internal/external corporate requirements: general ledger and financial reporting, ageing report solution for trading desk and portfolio monitoring etc.
